American Persimmons have caught my interest over the last couple of years. I didn't realized that they were fairly common around our city parks. This Autumn fruiting tree is currently in season. Be warned, however, the tastiest fruits do not look like this perfect, smooth specimen. Look for fruits that appear overripe and not very pretty or suffer a mouth-puckering, astringent burst of unpleasantness with your first bite. This is due to the presence of tannins.
