Friday's Foto
My photo doesn't do justice to this lovely Buff-breasted Sandpiper that I found at Floyd Bennett Field. While called a "sandpiper" this medium-sized shorebird is more likely to be found in short grass habitats. This species was nearly made extinct in the early 1920s due to agriculture and hunting. Some conservation organizations estimate that there are less than 15,000 left in the wild.
