Meet 7:30 AM at Bartel Pritchard Square park entrance

Focus: Peak of migration, the celebration of International Migratory Bird Day. This walk is not the team version. For information on team organization, see the next item. Participants in this walk may elect to support a personal bird-relevant cause. A suggested supporting cause for this walk could be NYC Wildlflower week, or similar . More details will be given at the beginning of the walk.

"The Birdathon", International Migratory Bird Day (Team version)
A global event celebrating the beauty of birds and their habitats. This event encourages fundraising for conservation causes. For this year, the theme is "Restore habitat, Restore birds".

Note: This year, teams will support Vallarta Botanic Gardens [ http://www.vbgardens.org/ ] through the auspices of Environment of the Americas (IMBD ) [ http://birdday.org/ ]. More details will be provided by the teams' coordinator when you register.

Guides: NYC Audubon, Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy With the Van Cortlandt Park Conservancy Meet at Van Cortlandt Nature Center. The history of birding and Van Cortlandt Park are inseparable. Influential birders such as Roger Tory Peterson and Allan D. Cruickshank got their starts on Van Cortlandt’s ecologically diverse grounds. These walks celebrate the tradition set forth by these great ornithologists. Participants will look for various species of residents and migrants and discuss a wide range of avian topics.

Explore the woodland and pond habitat of the 20,000-acre Sterling Forest preserve during peak spring migration. Look for nesting warblers (including golden-winged, cerulean, hooded, prairie, and blue-winged) as well as spring wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians. Visit the rustic visitor center. Trip involves 4-mile hike and some rocky terrain.
Bring lunch, water, and binoculars. Transport by passenger van. Limited to 12. $115 (80)

Join Conservancy Discovery Guides and NYC Audubon Society on this walk to learn how to spot our feathered neighbors and their foreign cousins as they make their annual trip along the Atlantic Flyway. Witness firsthand how the Conservancy's work has made the Park a sanctuary for these birds. Binoculars can be borrowed from the Visitor Center.
