A Breezy Birding Beachcomber walk
Saturday, July 30, 2022, 8:00am - 2:30pm
Leader: Peter Dorosh
Description: This approximate 7-8 mile round trip walk starts from Fort Tilden’s eastern boundary ( Q35 bus stop https://goo.gl/maps/aACnyKpdPr51573y8 ) and will saunter along the southern beach shore towards Breezy Point tip, in search of early migrating shorebirds, terns, gulls, ducks and potentially quality seabirds.
Registration: No registration required. Meet 8am at the Target Store, 1598 Flatbush Ave (at the Q35 Bus stop on Avenue H).

Description: Head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and join a ranger and explore the sounds of summer at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Learn about the world of sound and how it affects the environment and the way we experience it.hey cover a topic of their choice ranging from salt marsh ecology, birding, a history of land-use in Jamaica Bay, and more!. All ages are welcome. This is an all-weather program, so please dress for the conditions.

Green-Wood Cemetery

Birding in Peace
Sunday, July 31, 2022, 6:00am–7:30am
Before our gates open to the general public, birding expert Rob Jett leads these peaceful Sunday morning walking tours to discover the many birds that call Green-Wood home. In July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. By late-July, expect the arrival of the first southbound migrants.

Protectors of Pine Oak Woods

The Butterflies of Northern Seaview

Description: At the height of summer, one of the best locations on Staten Island to enjoy a variety of butterflies is Northern Seaview. The transitional ecology which includes scrub trees and grasses as well as wetlands and woodlands offers a wide collection of host plants and flowers to support an assortment of skippers, hairstreaks and swallowtails. If you are interested in learning more about our local butterflies or simply wish to enjoy their beauty join with Cliff Hagen as he seeks out and identifies more than a dozen species of these delicate neighbors. Participants will meet along Brielle Avenue at Graves Street. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.
