Like North America's other, forest thushes, the Swainson's Thrush eats mostly insects during the breeding season and fruits during the fall and winter. Named after English naturalist William Swainson this ground-dwelling species breeds primarily in the Boreal forests across North America. Their sweet, flute-like song is an up spiraling melody. Their winter range extends from northern South America south, through the western Amazon Basin to northern Argentina. The IUCN Red List lists this species as "Least Concern", although populations have been declining.
