I thought I'd end the year's "Friday's Foto" series with something a little different. Last Sunday the weather was so warm, that during our Christmas Bird Count at the New York Botanic Garden, we came across this
Eastern Garter Snake. During the Winter months they usually go into a hibernation-like state called
brumation. This common snake is highly variable in coloration and marking. It is also somewhat difficult to distinguish from the similar Eastern Ribbon Snake.
