Bloodroot flowers. The brief flowering cycle of this native species of the poppy family may only last for a few days. Its red sap has been attributed with numerous medicinal qualities, including a treatment for skin cancer. Dr. Andrew Weil has more reasonable advice
here, plus I recommend leaving these lovely flowers in the forest for others to enjoy.
