Since January 1st the amount of daylight hours in Brooklyn has increased from 9.1 hours to 10.5 hours. The increased amount of sunlight has, especially over the past 2 weeks, stimulated some of our local flora to begin their flowering cycle.
Common Snowdrops, one of the first wildflowers to emerge, are just now unfurling on sunbathed hillsides and fertile forests in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. It can sometimes even be seen pushing up through snow cover. This European species has become naturalized throughout North America.
