As we walked into the blind at the edge of the Return-a-Gift Pond in Floyd Bennett Field this small, colorful toad hopped out in front of us. I thought that identification would be fairly straightforward, considering I had good photos. When I began researching toads, however, I learned that the
Fowler's Toad and
American Toad not only look very similar, but also occasionally hybridize, making a conclusive ID tough. Here's a
