BEGIN TAPE

Greetings. This is the New York Rare Bird Alert for Friday, April 13th 2012 at 10:30pm. The highlights of today's tape are RED-NECKED GREBE, ICELAND GULL, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT.

Migratory movement for the period was only fair during the week with most observers reporting fair numbers of PINE WARBLERS, PALM WARBLERS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS with scattered BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS and a few BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, fair numbers of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS and HERMIT THRUSHES at favorite sites throughout the 5 boroughs and on Long Island.

The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER at Alley Pond Park was last seen last Saturday.

A RED-NECKED GREBE was present Thursday and Friday at Van Cortlandt Park Lake by the golf course.

An ICELAND GULL was on Wolfe's Pond Park on Staten Island on Thursday.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen at a private residence in Babylon on Thursday and the YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at Hempstead Lake State Park was last reported last Sunday.

Other interesting birds reported last week were:

An AMERICAN BITTERN was still on Dune Road near Triton Lane, Tiana Beach last Monday and another AMERICAN BITTERN, also on Monday, was seen at Jamaica Bay on the West Pond where a TRICOLORED HERON and a LITTLE BLUE HERON were reported on Sunday.

Small numbers of BLUE-WINGED TEAL were reported throughout the week at Jamaica Bay West Pond and Hempstead Lake State Park.

A remarkable 3,200 NORTHERN GANNETS were seen Thursday in the ocean off Robert Moses State Park Fire Island.

A BALD EAGLE was reported from Hempstead Lake State Park on Tuesday.

A RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD and a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH were at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on Saturday.
