Staten Island is home to the only Bank Swallow colony within New York City. The main reason that breeding banks are so rare here is because they require sandy cliffs or banks to build their nests. There are very few places left in the five boroughs that meet that requirement. One is at Great Kills Park along a stretch of bluff overlooking New York's Lower Bay.
