Go Below the Surface of the Gulf Oil Disaster

The Natural Resources Defense Council has put together an excellent interactive graphic that clearly (and chillingly) illustrates the ongoing effects of the BP Deep Horizon oil spill. NRDC explains: "Only eight percent of the approximately 170 million gallons of crude oil that flooded into the Gulf of Mexico was removed or burned. The rest was put into the environment; it dispersed or dissolved into the water column, floated to the surface, was deposited on the coast, or sank to the bottom."
