This American White Pelican was discovered hanging around the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge since July 14th. They aren't normally found in New York State as their breeding range is the northern great plains and western mountains. Winter range is along the southern coasts. It is probably the only pelican that can be seen from a subway train. Here's a map of the location.
