Now that my Internet service has been restored, here is the latest about Rose and Hawkeye’s offspring in the Bronx ... 3 days late.
Subject: Brief report on the Fordham nest
Date: May 29, 2007
Today (Tuesday), I watched the Collins Hall nest for some time from the ground, and didn't see a sign of life. Finally, I went up to the roof of Dealy Hall, and realized I wasn't even looking in the right place--the eyasses had moved to the opposite side of the pediment, where they were taking a nap. One of the many advantages of this nest site is the tremendous amount of room they have to exercise their growing muscles, and to seek shade--previously, Rose had to come at certain points in the day, to mantle them with her wings, to shield them from the sun--now they can simply reposition themselves to the same effect.
I looked to the east, and saw Hawkeye and Rose surveying their domain from the battlements of Keating Hall, the 'center piece of the Rose Hill campus', where the Dean's office and the campus radio station are located. All they cared about was the view, of course.
There’s something wonderfully medieval about Christopher’s last two photos in this set.
