New York City Rare Bird Alert
The New York City Rare Bird Alert hotline, after a long absence from Internet forums, has resumed submitting a transcription of the week's sightings. Starting today, each week I'll post a link to the transcription that has been sent in to the New York State Birding List.
New York City Rare Bird Alert, 4 May 2007
The RBA service is sponsored by the Linnaean Society of New York and the National Audubon Society.
Not sure this is considered a rare bird, but I just saw a gorgeous scarlet tanager in Trinity cemetary in downtown Manhattan. He was amazing- sitting still relaxing in the grass between graves, just enjoying the atmosphere despite all the people staring at his full spring plumage. I walk through there almost daily and have never seen one there before.
ReplyDeleteAt this time of year they are migrating through the city in good numbers. So, not necessary rare, but a rare beauty to see downtown. I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing that bird. Good sighting, must have made your week.
