The tiny Piping Plover is currently listed as endangered in New York State and threatened Federally. Besides the threats to adult birds on their coastal breeding grounds, their miniscule offspring are mobile nearly immediately after hatching making them frequent victims of avian predators, feral cats and beach vehicles.
